The Oak Tree

The Oak Tree
by Johnny Ray Ryder Jr

A mighty wind blew night and day
It stole the oak tree's leaves away
Then snapped its boughs and pulled its bark
Until the oak was tired and stark

But still the oak tree held its ground
While other trees fell all around
The weary wind gave up and spoke.
How can you still be standing Oak?

The oak tree said, I know that you
Can break each branch of mine in two
Carry every leaf away
Shake my limbs, and make me sway

But I have roots stretched in the earth
Growing stronger since my birth
You'll never touch them, for you see
They are the deepest part of me

Until today, I wasn't sure
Of just how much I could endure
But now I've found, with thanks to you
I'm stronger than I ever knew
"If we can forgive what’s been done to us . . .
If we can forgive what we’ve done to others . . . If we can leave all of our stories behind. Our being villains or victims. Only then can we maybe rescue the world."

True love tree

This is the true love tree on long island in New York. I hiked out to get to see it for myself back when I was living there. The pictures are not as good as standing next to this giant...but they will give you and idea of its size. The tree was never trimmed so it grew naturally for years and years and years..it stands alone in a great big field in lloyd neck harbor. It looks like a bush instead of a tree from the outside...but you can walk into the inside and it is the neatest place to have lunch. The locals told me the story of the tree and they really are not sure how it got started but the legend was if you carved your name and your true loves name into the tree trunk then you would marry your true love and live happily ever after. The kids and I am sure adults would sneak out to the tree in the middle of the night to carve their names into it. That was before the park rangers put up a fence and sign and began giving tickets to anybody who was caught carving names. we ate lunch under the tree after we cleaned out the horse stalls and before I left we did carve our names into the tree...but I didnt marry him -but we did live happily ever after...just not with each other ;)   I would love to go back and visit and see the tree again. It would be wonderful playing at caumsett. I got to see all the most wonderful secret places while I lived there and spent many nights playing hide and seek with grown people. LOL The mansion was a huge play ground with secret doors and hidden passages. When there was a storm we sometimes got stuck on the island. The road would be covered in water since the ocean was on one side and the sound on the other. We would sit in the old hay loft and watch the lightning in the sky. It was blue and the most beautiful lightning I have ever seen. the horses didnt care for it but we loved it. My favorite time was spreading the manure out in the fields just as the sun was coming up...it was so pretty. Of course the beaches were amazing. I was pretty lucky to get to experience long island and caumsett. I hope to go back and visit before I die...one of the many things on my bucket list.

This is Uncle Mike,Aunt Phyllis, and Dad..

What I kinda know...

Uncle Mike and Dad as kids sitting in the back of grandpas truck...they are together again in heaven and that gives me peace...
Its been very interesting...the things I have learned about people and death... I think we have events happen sometimes to help out our brothers and sisters on this journey through life. It took my breath away the morning I found out my Uncle had passed away, even after I thought I had prepared myself for it. I didn't expect the flood of tears and sobbing that happened..where did it come from? I don't ever remember crying so hard... I love my dad...and my uncle is the closest thing to my dad..I had plans to visit my uncle and hear all the stories and see pictures and feel that closeness to my father again...but God called him home before I could see him...so the sadness.. Then came the peace that passes all understanding...I have the best support and love :) the sadness is replaced with a peace. Thank you all who have been praying these last three months for my uncle. Thank you to those who came to visit just to make sure I was OK :) Thank you to those who sent notes and comfort food ;) nothing like chocolate to ease the pain...I still have moments I am hurting but more moments I see that there is much work to be done and I know uncle mike and dad are in a better place...a better place together....My sister said it gives her comfort knowing dad and uncle mike are together again...I like that too. Love you uncle Mike and daddy! you are never far from my thoughts.

Memo from santa

Memo from Santa:

I regret to inform you that, effective immediately, I will no longer serve Georgia, Idaho, West Virginia, Virginia, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas or Alabama on Christmas Eve.

Due to the overwhelming current population of the earth, my contract was renegotiated by North American Fairies and Elves Local 209. As part of the new and better contract, I also get longer breaks for milk and cookies so keep that in mind. However, I'm certain that your children will be in good hands with your local replacement, who happens to be my third cousin, Bubba Claus. His side of the family is from the South Pole. He shares my goal of delivering toys to all the good boys and girls; however, there are a few differences between us.

Differences such as:

1. There is no danger of the Grinch stealing your presents from Bubba Claus. He has a gun rack on his sleigh and a bumper sticker that reads:
"These toys insured by Smith and Wesson."

2. Instead of milk and cookies, Bubba Claus prefers that children leave RC cola and pork rinds (or a Moon Pie) on the fireplace. And Bubba doesn't smoke a pipe. He dips a little snuff, so please have an empty spit can handy.

3. Bubba Claus' sleigh is pulled by floppy-eared, flyin' coon dogs instead of reindeer. I made the mistake of loaning him a couple of my reindeer one time, and Blitzen's head now overlooks Bubba's fireplace.

4. You won't hear "On Comet, on Cupid, on Donner, and Blitzen..." when Bubba Claus arrives. Instead, you'll hear, "On Earnhardt, on Andretti, on Martin and Petty."

5. "Ho, Ho, Ho" has been replaced by "Yee Haw" And you also are likely to hear Bubba's elves respond, "I her'd dat"

6. As required by Southern highway laws, Bubba Claus' sleigh does have a Yosemite Sam safety triangle on the back with the words "Back Off."

7. The usual Christmas movie classics such as "Miracle on 34th Street" and "It's a Wonderful Life" will not be shown in your negotiated viewing area. Instead, you'll see "Boss Hogg Saves Christmas" and "Smokey and the Bandit IV" featuring Burt Reynolds as Bubba Claus and dozens of state patrol cars crashing into each other.

8. Bubba's Christmas Motto, "Git 'er Done", has developed into a local favorite in recent years. And finally,

9. Bubba Claus doesn't wear a belt, so if I were you, I'd make sure the wife and the kids turn the other way when he bends over to put presents under the tree. It's his own way of expressing his anti-drug message, "Say No To Crack".

Sincerely Yours,

Santa Claus
